Sustainability

At Le Court Club (LCC), we believe in the power of sustainable fashion and are committed to using high quality certified organic and recycled materials only for our clothing.

Moving away from fast fashion

The fashion industry has a significant impact on the environment. The production of clothing and textiles involves the use of large amounts of water, energy, and chemicals, which can lead to pollution and other environmental problems. This is especially true for the fast fashion industry that uses inexpensive fabric which is quickly discarded, contributing to textile waste and overconsumption.

To mitigate the environmental impact of fashion, consumers can choose to purchase sustainably-made clothing, support companies like LCC with environmentally-friendly practices, and reduce their overall consumption of clothing.

Some examples of sustainable clothing fabrics include:

  • Organic cotton: grown without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilisers, reducing the impact on the environment and improving the health of farmers.
  • Hemp: a highly durable and versatile plant that requires little water and pesticides to grow.
  • Recycled polyester: made from recycled plastic bottles and other post-consumer waste, reducing the need to produce new polyester from petroleum.

Textile sustainability is a complex issue and it is important to note that no fabric is completely sustainable. However, these fabrics are considered more sustainable than traditional fabrics such as traditional cotton and polyester.

Le Court Club's engagement

  • 100% certified organic or recycled materials

Our clothing lines consist of items made of 100% organic or recycled materials, or such material blends. Currently, that includes, but is not limited to: organic cotton, recycled cotton, recycled polyester, recycled nylon, and organic cotton/recycled polyester fabric blends.

  • Certifications for all products

To verify material content, we collect valid certificates from our suppliers:

  • As proof of the product’s organic composition, we accept either GOTS or OCS certificates.
  • As proof of the product’s recycled composition, we accept either GRS or RCS certificates.

You will find each product certification on every product page.

  • On demand printing only

Traditional retailers typically produce items in large quantities before they are put up for sale in order to save money. LCC only produces products when an order is placed, which means that our inventory is limited to items that already have a buyer. This means that there is less wastebecause it eliminates the need for large amounts of unsold inventory which can be costly to store and to be disposed of if it doesn't sell.

  • Direct-to-garment (DTG) printing

All our items except hats use the DTG printing method.
Direct-to-garment (DTG) printing is more sustainable than other more outdated apparel printing methods, such as screen printing. Not only does screen printing use a lot of water and plastisol inks that don’t biodegrade, but it’s also generally used for bulk orders, which leads to overproduction. In comparison, DTG printing is more eco-friendly because items get printed only when they’re ordered, and this method can be used for single-item printing.

  • Towards recycled packaging

Our packaging is made of 50% PCR plastics (we're working with our suppliers to improve and reach 100% soon, and eventually use plastic free packaging to ship our orders)

PCR plastics are made from items people recycle every day, like plastic bags and bottles. Most of our PCR plastics are made from shopping bags and wrapping films.

More details about our certifications:

GLOBAL ORGANIC TEXTILE STANDARD (GOTS)

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent third-party certification of the entire textile supply chain. This standard also sets limitations on other fibers that can be blended with organic fibers.

Organic Content Standard (OCS)

The Organic Content Standard (OCS) is a certification for non-food goods that confirms the organic material presence in the final product. It also follows the supply chain from its source to the final product.

Global Recycled Standard (GRS) and Recycled Claim Standard (RCS)

The Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) and Global Recycled Standard (GRS) are international, voluntary standards that set requirements for third-party certification of recycled content and supply chain. The shared goal of the standards is to increase the use of recycled materials. The GRS includes additional criteria for social and environmental processing requirements and chemical restrictions.

OEKO-TEX standard 100

Oeko-Tex - Wikipedia

OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 is one of the world's best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances. It stands for customer confidence and high product safety. If a textile article carries the STANDARD 100 label, you can be certain that every component of this article, i.e. every thread, button and other accessories, has been tested for harmful substances and that the article therefore is harmless for human health.
